GetGlue.com

Fringe is having a giveaway. They are giving away props from the set, but to enter you have to be a part of GetGlue and check in with a secret word. The secret word can be found before the show on Friday so you will be able to enter while watching.

I didn’t want to join another social media site, but GetGlue was interesting. It allows you to check-in to entertainment. For example, I can check in about the artist I’m listening to, the book I’m reading, the move or show that I’m watching and so on. As rewards you get stickets.

When you reach 20 stickers you can request them and GetGlue will mail the stickers to you. I’ve also noticed that a few movies and TV shows have partnered with GetGlue to provide stickers and in some cases, giveaways – as the case with Fringe.  I think I’m looking forward to this sticker the most. Hanna was amazing.

It’s an interesting idea, but, if I was honest, it was the stickers that appealed to me more than anything else. I’m curious to see where it goes and how it will evolve. You can check it out if you want to see what’s going on, just be warned, it can get addicting.

The Ginny European Tour

The next time I travel to Europe, I want to go to some of the places that Ginny, from Maureen Johnson’s 13 Little Blue Envelopes, visited. Since there wasn’t a map available, I made one using the AWESOME Google Maps. This is a cheat BEDA post as I’m sending you to another blog post, but I think this map should be highlight, because Maureen is awesome and Google is awesome. That’s all.

ps … did I mention that you can download the book mentioned here for free? At least until next week?

Steampunk, Etsy and Me

I blame Scott Westerfeld, and perhaps Tim Burton. My love for things “steampunk” comes from their influence. In the fall or 2009, after reading Leviathan, I hopped on Etsy and searched for steampunk jewelry, I was looking for necklaces and happened across this gem from School of Charm.

What captured my eye was the quote they had in the description:

“Nerves and butterflies are fine –
they’re a physical sign
that you’re mentally ready and eager.

You have to get the butterflies
to fly in formation,
that’s the trick.”
— Steve Bull

It was my first Etsy piece and my first steampunk piece. I loved it! After that, I read Cassandra Clare’s Clockwork Angel and she was promoting an Etsy store – hebelmet – which sells jewelry based on her books. There I got my second piece of steampunk jewelry, another necklace. Clockwork Wings.

And now I have another piece, this time from Umbrella Laboratory, not necessarily steampunk, but it is a clock in a snitch – a Golden Snitch! A snitch in time?

Isn’t it pretty? I can’t wait to get it! =) Harry Potter + Steampunk + Necklaces?

Geek Out!

Commuter Art

No really sure what exactly this is called, as I don’t recall seeing a plaque, so I’ll call is the Commuter Sculpture.

I saw it while at the Hempstead Long Island Railroad Station and I really enjoyed the detail of the train at the bottom. (Did you notice the laptop in the stack?)

They also had these artwork benches … I suppose it brings new meaning to the phrase, “sit on the luggage”. Does anyone say that?

Anyway, there is a book-bag just sitting on the bench, should I say something?
