I can haz a crock pot?

My friend Cate has a slow cooker. We’ve had chili and ribs with great slow cooking success while watching movies like Sound of Music and Love Actually.

I went to Target this weekend for some home improvement things and I saw an aisle with crock pots, so I decided to get one. Then I went to Barnes and Nobles and got the Crock-Pot Slow Cooker Bible, because I like cook books (sshhh, that’s a secret).

When I got home I decided to try out a recipe, I chose the Chicken and Beans Chili as a guide, and gathered all the ingredients I could find along with some substitues. The end result was more a stew than a chili, so here is the Chicken and Beans Stew.

I had no chili powder, so I used 2 tsp. Red Pepper and 1 tsp. Black Pepper. 2 tsp Ground Cumin, left over salsa, 3 cloves of garlic and a small onion.

I chopped the tomates up into eights each, and chopped some chicken thighs into 1 inch pieces (no bones or skin included).

then you basically dump everything in …

and mix it around until it the chicken is coated.

Plug it in.

Leave it on high, for about 2 hours.

Then throw in some beans and let it cook for 10 more minutes.

After it’s done you’ll have a lovely chicken and bean stew concoction, that, according to my pesky brother, tastes great!

Napoleon Dynamite needs You!

Jon Heder is producing a short (5-min) animated video written by Nick Peterson, it’s called Drained. The project launched on Kickstarter and will be using stop motion animation and live actors. If you want to see what this looks like check out his two commercials.

$10 and you get your name in the credits, $25 and you get a download of the film.

Sounds like an interesting concept, I’d like to see it filmed. 23 days to go!

I danced with the Angry Birds

“This is the best game ever!” my friend exclaimed as she pulled out her iPhone and started to show me how to play Angry Birds.

“That’s the best game ever?” I thought to myself, “you’re just flinging birds at pigs!”

Fast forward two months and I finally purchased the iPod Touch, one more month and I finally downloaded Angry Birds — the free version.

Then I downloaded the paid version.

Flinging birds at pigs has never been this fun! And I’m not the only one who thinks so! Angry bird is popping up all over the place! Let’s see, there is …

And the Oscar goes to …

Today is the Oscars, and I’m going – for the first time – to an Oscar “party”. That “party” part is stretched, after all, it will be 4 of us, flicking back and forth between the basketball game and the awards, though, cheese might be on the menu. Yes, we can party.

I don’t really care about the Oscars, to be honest, I’ve never cared about any award shows, but I do love hanging out with close friends. However, since we are having an Oscar party and I am competitive I created a form where we can input our answers before the awards to see who guessed the most correctly.

My Hopeful Winners

Not really sure how those will work out, but if I were to go by Mashable’s predictions and their voice of the people via Twitter then I have 50% correct. If I were to go by Foursquare’s checkins then I’m only good with my Inception choices.

In any case, I will enjoy the the companionable night and the cheese.
